I’m not comfortable flooding my socials with announcements and reviews which have been numerous since my book pubbed last week. So I’m putting one here because I was so touched by how this reviewer understood my book. Her words are thrilling to me!
From Julie Brinkley, ReadingOnTheBrink:
“Wow. What a story spinner author Terri Lewis is! I am still truly trying to gather all my thoughts and reflections on her medieval novel, released today, Behold the Bird in Flight. Based on the true story of King John's abduction of young Isabelle d’Angoulême, she has masterfully blurred the lines of fact and fiction to create a riveting tale of power, heartthrob, heart-ache, and self-discovery.
”My first take-away from the novel is just how fortunate I am to have been born in the 20th century and not 12th or 13th century Europe, especially as a woman!
Secondly, I loved that we are given a fresh name and face in history, as I am pretty sure not many have heard of Isabelle d’Angoulême. (Have you?) So much of the history taught of women in the Middle Ages were glossed over, so I appreciate how Lewis spotlighted Isabelle's story.
Thirdly, I am in awe of the research Lewis combed through to make the story as authentic as it came across. And while at times the pace was a bit uneven and even a little slow, I truly enjoyed the novel, and could even see it optioned for the screen. Now to think about who I would cast!”
This is what’s left of Angoulême castle, where Isabelle was raised. There’s even less about her in the chronicles, but at least for one reader, I brought her back to life and that’s thrilling.
Stay tuned for a post about who I would cast in the movie…
